Tim Harvey | 1st | 18 May 1999 | When I hit taps, the page I was on disappeared and a blank
screen, divided in half horizontally, came up and a device moving slowly across the screen for 1.5-2 min. About .5 way across the screen Taps came on, played for a short time and that was it... I think the sound was done before the marker got all the way across the page. So, I couldn't figure out what that was all about. Was it supposed to be a alternate music for the page? When I looked for Photos along with the descriptions of photos in the Log or Lucky Bag, or wherever it was, I couldn't find any buttons to trigger the photos... or were they off to the side? I don't know. Maybe they're not there yet. Overall quality, intent, colors, design... quite good. Definitely represents USNA 63 and USNA well! |
Lou Simpleman | 4 | 1 Jun 1999 | Mike and Bill, great start. Not surprised that you two
have come with a professional looking and appropriate site. Password is a good idea. You guys have put in a lot of work. Thanks! |
Jon Scott | 17th | 7 Jun 1999 | In sections where legends are used i.e. Last Call, they
should be placed at the beginning instead at the end. Also the actuating button for the sound should be at the beginning. It may be my computer setup but the Navy hymn came across as very scratchy in the beginning. It would be great to be able to contact any classmate without compromising his right to reasonable privacy. E-mail addresses are pretty easy to obtain so they should be easily available. However, addresses and telephone numbers should be protected. It looks like a lot of quality professional effort went into building the site. I will be glad to see it when it is finished. |
Joseph T. (Tim) Cook | 20th | 8 Jul 1999 | Looks great. I'll know more and comment when I've spent
more time aboard. |
John Calande | first | 7 Jul 1999 | Terrific job. My thanks to Bill and Blackie. It's nice to
see the talent from 63 showing so nicely for the good of the class. How about a class list? I would be happy to start and manage one. J.J. |
Dick "George" Kell | 8th | 7 Jul 1999 | I feel it was very well done and I haven't had a chance to
see all of it. Great job and much appreciated as we never forget but sometimes have lost touch with our classmates. I think that publishing e-mail addresses would be OK and certainly would assist if you need to contact someone. I have not had a problem finding an e-mail address for anyone, it just takes a while. |
Ray Theep | 2nd | 7 Jul 1999 | Unfortunately, although I could bring up the pictures by
clicking on the icon, none of the pictures automatically displayed upon hitting the page. Looks like a "fun" page otherwise. It was an easy way to catch up some. Not subscribing to Shipmate, this makes sense. Password protected information would not be a bad idea, but probably too complicated (read: time consuming) to set up. Our class could be a target for spamming if we gave out addresses to all visitors. |
SETTLE, Jr., Stuart W. ("Will") | 10 | 7 Jul 1999

I've not been through the whole site yet, but the Class
locater section needs to have the Batt info corrected. Battalions were numbered 1st, 3d, 5th and 2d, 4th, 6th. Not as you have shown them. E.G., companies 9-12 were in the 5th Batt. not the 3d as shown. [Webmaster: corrected] I keep coming back here as a general place to log comments. Checked out the Class of '94 web page and their "Gift Shop" for Class items gave me an idea. Why don't we also do that because there is a lot of unsold reunion stuff still in garages that gets trotted out at five-year reunions. Also, since we have Pete Deutermann, a published author, why not link a section on his books right into Amazon.com and people can order them at great discounted prices. S.W.S [Webmaster: Done! book jackets link to bookstores.] |
Fred Sutherland | 20th | 6 Jul 1999 | Wardroom comes on as a grey blank page. |
Gerald Saber | 3 | 7 Jul 1999 | Very impressive showing considerable skill, attention to
detail and a great plan. I would like to sign up when the web master gives a class. That which is in the LUCKY BAG is on record. What we do not have is current info on classmates. Am sure many would spend hours just to see what each has and is doing. Shipmate photos should be not used at all |
Donna Kaup | 03 | 7 Jul 1999 | It is very professional! Beautifully engineered. Of
course the blue and gold is the correct and classy choice of color! The site is easy to read and click onto any area of interest! I really enjoyed reading up on the past, present, and future. It was great to be able to click onto a site and see who was in the third company with my dear Karl! On a personal note: Mike, I have never been so surprised in my life---seeing my cookbook on the Quarterdeck!!! It gave me a chuckle and I can even hear Karl laughing!!! Thanks so much for the thrill. You know how to make someone feel very special and included as part of this great class of '63! Love you all, Donna Kaup |
David Moore | 14 | 7 Jul 1999 | Really great. I was pleased to see the inclusion of those
who did not finish the four years. Any current biography should be kept short. Shipmate photos should be separate, click from the text |
Charles Gosnell | 10th | 7 Jul 1999 | This is a great opportunity to keep up with the BEST class
to graduate from the "Boat School" Please schedule the 40th other than the 1st weekend in October as I have an annual conflict. The MS Society Bike-to-the-Bay. Each year I raise over $1000 for this worthy cause. |
Rich Weidman | 16 | 7 Jul 1999 | Well Done -- obviously lot of thought and work put into it.
|
David Stephan | 19 | 7 Jul 1999 | Cool! A great use of the Web technology!
The site looks great to me. I will provide more comments later. |
John McDermott | 1st | 7 Jul 1999 | Obviously, a lot of work went into this. Thanks!
It would be nice to have classmates sorted by current state, zip of residence as well as company or alphabetical. I'm impressed. Like all things thus, its viability will depend on participation, a difficult hill to climb in the age of information overload. |
J. R. (Ron) Hand | 8 | 7 Jul 1999 | Excellent.....thanks to each of you involved for all the
obvious hard work and dedication. BZ Will come back as I have more time. Thanks again. |
Mike Lents | 6th | 7 Jul 1999 | I would like my personal information, including email
address to be available to my classmates. But I would be hesitant to put that information on a web site. For instance, did you all inform the officers of the Foundation that their addresses, phone numbers and email addresses would be on a open web site? [Webmaster: Actually, Foundation requested that their Directory be posted.] The Class web site has an excellent start. It is tastefully done, and very informative. Keep up the great work!! |
Al Griggs | 12 | 7 Jul 1999 | Great homepage
Very well thought out presentation Comments on privacy: I would resist giving our names to anyone. Thanks for the effort to get this up. It is an important aid to our keeping in touch. |
Jim Carter | 6th | 7 Jul 1999 | I would like home and or business addresses and phone
numbers of our classmates I understand Tom Haney, Captain of USNA Golf Team, Swift Boat OINC in An Thoi South Viet Nam, died in the last year. Are there any other details available, like survivors addresses? |
TED HEALY | 23 | 7 Jul 1999 | BZ |
Schowalter, Ronald O. | 17 | 7 Jul 1999 | This looks wonderful. BZ |
Redd, Benjamin D. Jr. | 5th
Ken Metviner | 24th | 7-8 Jul 1999 | Thanks for your initiative and accomplishment. I have
enjoyed my first visit thoroughly. I couldn't find any reference to current occupations (if any), etc. Also, wouldn't it be interesting to have a photo gallery of ourselves, "Then and Now". We met our Company-mates for the first time in 35 years last October at our reunion. Some guys haven't changed. Others put on some pounds. Funny, no one seems to have lost any more hair. Good ideas keep coming in. This is great. |
Jim Thornton | 23 | 7 Jul 1999 | I am not dead. And Ted Healy does exist. Please resurrect me and add Ted Healy to our company rooster. Thanks. [Webmaster: Done! Welcome back from the Dark Side!] |
Jack Karson | 8 | 7 Jul 1999 | OUTSTANDING...........
The Last Call section is a tough one, just like going to the Vietnam Memorial. But, it is perfect... Comments on USNA Links category: Nice touch. It was easy to get to other interesting areas. Comments on privacy: Listing of everyone is fine with me. Bravo Zulu |
John Dolby | 14th | 7 Jul 1999 | This is one of the best special interest web sites that I
have had a chance to visit. Great job!!! |
pete savage | 7 | 7 Jul 1999 | I think it's a GREAT idea and a great site! It's something
that will give us all the opportunity to share memories and be better connected, and with far less effort than snail mail! good ideas! expertise in an area should probably be expanded to include requests for help. ex. medical, trip planning, etc/ Comments on Class News category: very nice! i think the sea stories pages will encourage a lot of people to submit stories. i know i was moved to write a few up, and i haven't written to shipmate ever! great job! thank you! |
Blackwell, Lew | 10 | 7 Jul 1999 | An excellent start-well done to the initiators. The use and
value of the site will grow over time as more people use it. You have created a great base for everyone to help build on over time. Again ,well done ! |
Ron Klemick | 5TH | 8 Jul 1999 | Excellent; good start. Any type news would be welcome.
What a great beginning ! |
Donald R. Freese | 5 | 8 Jul 1999 | I have not explored site. First logo. Great idea! |
Wilson F Harris | 5 | 7 Jul 1999 | Bravo Zulu!
It is excellent now and will only get better. One small item: List the classmates full address AND email addresses.... (and this Evaluation Form is way too long, sir) Comments on privacy: I'm not really sure such security is necessary but I will defer to others with more experience in the field. If I send email to a classmate I'm not worried if he has my return address..... |
D. Terry Rogers | 20th | 9 Jul 1999 | This is great. We owe a debt of considerable gratitude to
those of our classmates who have labored to produce this site. Comments on privacy: I suspect that privacy is going to become more critical in the future. We are going to be bombarded with junk email without it. |
Newkirk, Charles | 15 | 9 Jul 1999
O'Brien, Thomas Joseph, Jr. | 18th | 8 Jul 1999 | Great site!! Enjoyed perusing it tonight and will return
for more in-depth looks later. Thanks to the Webmaster and all others responsible for pulling all the info available into one central repository. BZ!! Comments on Shipmate category: Always superb! Many thanks to Mike Shelley. |
John Detweiler | 12 | 9 Jul 1999 | This is a good piece of work. Glad to be able to get information
in "real time" - And my thanks to
all who have made this possible. |
John Nelson | 12 | 9 Jul 1999 | Well organized and clear except for the Signal Bridge.
What is going on there? Purpose, how to use, etc? Not exactly clear how one would get a snail mail address for a classmate. |
Frank Holmes | 14 | 8 Jul 1999 | great idea and the appearance is very professional and
appropriate Comments on Classmates category: also seems like a good idea. I'm such a rube with computers, I don't know how its to be constructed but I can push the button on the mouse...... Comments on USNA Links category: good, allows to get around related areas - thank you Comments on privacy: so far, privacy hasn't been a problem for me but based on everything I've read, we need to be careful to preserve as much privacy as possible with Internet Access Appreciate your work to get this started - I believe this site will help us remain connected as age begins to catch up with us.... |
McAnally, Alan | 21 | 8 Jul 1999 | You have done an excellent job and I know there will be
more improvements in the future. I enjoyed it. Nice job. Thanks |
Hahn, William Dillon | 8 | 10 Jul 1999 | The site is outstanding. Thanks to all who have made it
possible. BZ Please include all of the information that each individual is comfortable sharing. |
Zimmerman, Sherwood | 63 | 12 Jul 1999 | Awesome! You guys did a great job!
Comments on audio: Couldn't play them, although I opened my RealPlayer. Don't know if its me or the website? Also, Last Call page always hangs up my computer -- I get a "Not Responding" message? |
Gary Smith | 12th | 12 Jul 1999 | Nice job ! |
Howard, O. E. (Ed) III | 2nd | 11 Jul 1999
Newkirk, Charles | 15 | 14 Jul 1999
John Detweiler | 12 | 14 Jul 1999 | This is a good piece of work. Comments on privacy:
I would lean to publishing all known email addresses. And my thanks to all who have made this possible. JHD |
Pete Deutermann | 12th | 19 Jun 1999 | If individual classmates have their own websites (e.g.,
ptdeutermann.com,) will these be offered as links? Biggest privacy prob is going to be spam; if there are some spam filters available, these should be activated - and, members can come back to the webmaster to identify spammers; it might be useful to add a password feature to enter the site, such as, USNAAA member number? I'm very impressed with this; had no idea it was even being developed. Very well done, and almost scary in its coverage. |
Lanny Cox | 11/15 | 23 Jul 1999 | BEAUTIFUL JOB! This is a very classy presentation. Is
there a way to link classmates geographically? For example, I am in the North Texas area (Dallas/Fort Worth). Is there a way to get a list of classmates in the area? I ran into a guy from `64 the other day and he asked if I were interested in starting an Alumni Chapter here in Fort Worth since the existing North Texas Chapter (in Dallas) is too far away to go for breakfast/luncheon type events. Response from Hostmaster: Yes, we just haven't got it yet. The rosters we have are essentially dumps of spread sheets from the Alumni Association and we have found some errors in them. My chore, as chief bit butcher, is to organize them into an indexed searchable database. Current zip code will be one of the ways to search the roster. I think whomever made this possible deserves a rousing 3 cheers and BZ! It's very well done. Hip, hip, hooray and Bravo Zulu!! |
Terry Abell | 18 | 16 Jul 1999 | I find everything about the site pleasing; an accurate
rendition of Quality '63. Every Category of the site carries out that quality. |
Bingemann, David A. | 8th | 16 Jul 1999 | Excellent! |
Malcolm Wright | 9th | 16 Jul 1999 | Great Site. It has the right topics. I'm impressed.
Audio was spotty (dead spots) when it first came on. If you clicked "stop" and then started it again, the quality was fine. |
Pete Rollosson | 16 | 16 Jul 1999 | Impressive. I especially like the colors and font size.
I
have very poor vision due to diabetic retinopathy. Good job. Appreciate all of the links. |
Robert "Brev" Moore | 6th | 17 Jul 1999 | Great Site! Appearance is sharp! Regarding my web
browser, I believe mine is Compuserve. How about another choice so we can fill in the blank? Publish all email addresses. You already have, haven't you? [Webmaster: Not really - Class.Secretary e-mails them out, but they are not available on the Web as a collection.] This was a somewhat cursory, first visit, but I appreciate the effort and I think you are on the right track! Brev |
