March 25, 2011

Dear Classmates,

We are wrapping up our detailed planning and now anxiously await your arrival for our Class of 1963 Mid Term Reunion in San Diego!

Everything is in place for you to relax and have an enjoyable weekend reconnecting with old friends and shipmates, as well as revisiting old haunts from your earlier career!

Attached at the end of this note is the list of those registered as of March 24, 2011!

We would like to give you a few very important reminders in order to make your Mid Term Reunion most enjoyable. Our Base of Operations throughout the Reunion will be our Hospitality Suite at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. The Hospitality Suite is the Cunningham Rooms A, B, and C, on the fourth deck of the Hyatt overlooking San Diego Bay. It will be under the command of our first Class President, Vern Von Sydow, or his designated representative (any other MTR Committee Member recognizable by a nametag with a Blue and Gold ribbon attached).

You must check in to the Hospitality Suite to register, confirm your payments with Treasurer/Registrar Lee Cargill, and receive your name badges and Registration Package from Vern and his Team. These Nametags will be required for entrance to the harbor cruise and the Class dinner!

Coffee and tea will be available on Thursday and Saturday mornings. It will not be available on Friday morning as we have a very early departure scheduled. A cash bar will be available on Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon, and Saturday afternoon.

We urge you to thoroughly read and understand the Flyers for each event, which will be included in your Welcome Package. Pay particular attention to scheduled boat and bus departure times.

Thursday, March 31, 1600. Begin proceeding to the beautiful Harbor Cruise Ship Lord Hornblower, which will be moored in the Marriott Marina (next door to the Hyatt) at Gate Three. (See the map/guide in your welcome package). If you are not on board by 1645, we will very likely leave without you! No refunds!

Friday, April 1, 2011. Friday will be a full, rewarding day beginning with a Recruit Graduation Parade honoring the Class, followed by a Class Luncheon at the former Adm Kidd OÕClub. Both these events are within DOD high security areas. You are again urged to ride the buses provided. Do not try to drive and park yourselves at these facilities.

Buses will begin loading at the Kettner Street entrance to the Hyatt at 0845 on Friday. If you are not comfortably seated on board a bus by 0910, you will most likely have missed the bus!

These same buses will deliver you to the Luncheon, and return you to the Hyatt by about 1500. Both Thursday and Friday evenings are ÒopenÓ for dinner and your enjoyment.

Silent Auction. A very prestigious Silent Auction of items donated by Classmates for the benefit of the Class of 1963 Foundation is already underway, and will proceed throughout the MTR weekend. Items up for bid will be on display in the Hospitality Suite beginning Thursday morning, March 31, 2011. Final bids will be taken at the Saturday Evening Soiree aboard the historic steam ferry, BERKELEY.

You may review the catalog of items available for bid at any time on the Class Web Site at http://www.usna63.org/reunion/Catalog11-25-11.pdf, and you may bid at any time by sending an email to Mike Krause (mkrause63@optimum.net) stating the item and the dollar amount you want to bid! You need not be present to win. Payment for Silent Auction Items must be by personal check or Cash only. No Credit Cards!!!!

A note about the dress code: Dress for the entire Reunion is designated as ÒCasualÓ. As the evenings get cool and many events are on or near the water, windbreakers, sweaters and jackets are recommended. A warm jacket/sweater is also advised for the MCRD Parade, as we will be seated outside. As the Class will be honored at the MCRD Parade, it is an appropriate event for blazers (and Class ties, for those so inclined). While still designated as ÒCasualÓ the Saturday Evening Soiree aboard BERLELEY is another opportunity to be a bit dressy for those so inclined. While we are expecting great weather, it will likely be a bit breezy and cool on the water.

Your Mid Term Reunion committee has thoroughly enjoyed organizing, and probably has had Òmore fun than we deserveÓ! Now the rest is up to you! See you at the Mid Term

Reunion!
